Q: What is the Sims99 Movie Workshop?
A: The Sims99 Movie Workshop is a place for serious filmmakers to get valuable and specific feedback on their work. Want more feedback on your films? Are you willing to spend time watching and giving thoughful reviews on other member's movies? Then the Sims99 Movie Workshop is just what you're looking for!
Q. How does it work?
A: The Sims99 Movie Workshop takes place mostly in a private section of our forums. You commit to writing five reviews for every one of your films that you can submit to the workshop. So participation in the workshop involves GIVING feedback as well as RECEIVING it. You can often learn more from watching movies with an analytical eye than from receiving comments on your own work, probably because you can do so without emotional attachment and from a more reasoned perspective.
Q. Who can join?
A: Anyone willing to follow the workshop guidelines. We accept all levels of skill in the Workshop, however we do require that you be willing to put some effort into the craft!
Participation is key. This is not a place for lurkers! You do not have to have a movie ready for critique in order to join, however you must be an active participant by writing reviews in order to stay in the private forum.
It's important to keep in mind this is a workshop for people serious about improving their craft. Therefore you must expect to hear what needs improvement, which can sometimes require a thick skin! Decide before applying if you think you want to put yourself in a position where your work will be picked apart and analyzed by other members.
Q. How do I join?
A: In order to join, you must first have a forum membership. (The forum login is separate from the main Sims99 login.) If you do not already have an account, you can register here.
Once you have an account, go to the Sims99 Movie Workshop Forum called Rules and Applications. Read through all the messages in that forum with the subject line "READ TO APPLY". This will detail all the basics of the workshop. Instructions for requesting formal membership are detailed in those posts, and will walk you through step by step.
Q. I have more questions. Who do I ask?
A: Forum moderators Armanus and Witchery are the Sims99 Movie Workshop Group Leaders. You may send them a Private Message once you have a forum account. You can also post questions in the public part of the workshop, the Sims99 Movie Workshop Rules and Applications Forum.
Before you post questions, be sure you have read ALL the instructions in that forum, since most basic questions have already been answered in the 'How To' posts there.
Q. What Happens After I Apply?
A. The Group Leaders go through the forum at least once per day to review group applications. Once they see your application, you will be accepted to the group and then will have full access to the hidden parts of the forum. There you will be able to see a list of the movies that are currently available for Workshop review, and also see reviews others have written. Once accepted, you will also receive an icon on your main site profile, and you will have the option of showing your movies on the main site as 'Workshop' films, and any reviews you write as 'Workshop' reviews.
Encourage your friends to join and participate! The more workshop members we have, the more feedback you'll get and you will raise everyone's opportunity to receive even more high-quality reviews on Sims99!
