In Feb 2006, Todnyc received an honorable mention for Minor Currents (Redux), and then again in September we saw The Fixer; Chapter III : One Digit Off receive a huge amount of votes. The Fixer is an all-time favourite film here at Sims99, and with its gritty feel, fascinating characters, and quality sound work, it's easy to see why.

Sims99: Where did you draw inspiration from for this movie?
Todd: The Fixer is entirely derivative. Im a huge fan of schlocky gangster films, particularly the crap that followed Pulp Fiction. So the mood was ripped off of Guy Ritchies work predominantly.

Sims99: What was the most difficult shot or moment in your movie?
Todd: In Episode III, I wanted to do somethign of an action oriented credit roll. So the Helicopter chase was tough, getting the copter door to slide open was an excercise in advanced mathematics.

Sims99: How long was production time on this movie from start to finish?
Todd: Episode III, probably began in late May, then I sent it off to Phil "the Overman" Rice for scoring, sound effects, and vocal track mixing in late July. And I think I finally got it out at the end of September.

Sims99: What is your favorite scene in this movie?
Todd: I loved every second of dialogue parsed by Richard Grove. He plays the heavy. The first time I listened to his vocal tracks, I was jazzed.

Sims99: Do you have a funny production story about this movie?
Todd: The final shot took about 20 hours to get right.

Sims99: Is there anything you would change about this movie, or were you 100% satisfied with the outcome?
Todd: There's probably 30 seconds that could come out of it.

Sims99: What future movie projects can we expect to see from you in 2007?
Todd: I'm hoping to wrap up the Fixer and launch a new miniseries. Ill be working on some other non-Burnt Coffee stuff as well.

Sims99: Do you have some advice for new filmmakers?
Todd: Watch everything. Read everything. And be patient.

Sims99: What was your favorite movie(s) featured on sims99 in 2006?
Todd: Hmm. Let's see. I'll try to leave the obvious stuff out... Cooper Black's Blueboy was a great treat, I must have watched that on repeat for a week. Mr. Pementor's pre-snow white madness series 'The View,' excited me (Where'd he go?). And though, its gotten some attention, an Unfair War stood out to me.

Sims99: Of your OWN movies, which is your favorite and why?
Todd: The next one, I struggle through re-watching anything I've done.

Sims99: Of your OWN movies, is there one you dislike or would have done differently and why?
Todd: Ep. II of the Fixer is pretty weak and I rushed it.

Sims99: What do you like to see in a machinima movie?
Todd: A clear director's stamp. Where working with borrowed technology, a director should actively contribute and not just press record.

Sims99: What are your thoughts on the future of machinima in general?
Todd: Machinima is a true artifact of the gaming generation, once that generation is old and worked in Machinima will just be another medium, like flash animation.

Sims99: How did you get started making machinima?
Todd: Bored and broke, its a great way to pass an afternoon.

Sims99: Do you see machinima as having big-screen potential in the future?
Todd: I think the more relevant question is, does it have a future on little-screens (ie: IPODS).

Sims99: What are your other hobbies besides making machinima?
Todd: I enjoy gardening and spelunking. Im a film nerd and a comic book dork.

Sims99: Tell us something about yourself that's plausible, but untrue, and something that's unbelievable, but true.
Todd: I've been to Madonna's apartment and I wrote novel.
