Sims99 General FAQ
  • How can I support sims99?
  • My bandwidth is running low, but I don't want to lose my reviews!
  • Can you delete my account?
  • How many reviews until I get my Star Review Star?
  • Why doesn't my screenshot, profile logo, or movie show up yet?
  • I saw an inappropriate movie, picture, or review...what do I do?
  • Why do I have to have an account to rate and review movies?

  • Why do you need my email address?

If there is a problem with a movie you add to our directory or screenshot you upload, we must have a way to contact you and let you know. Otherwise we'd just have to delete things that didn't work! This gives each director the opportunity to fix broken links or other issues.

We NEVER give your email address to anyone else, nor will we send you email unrelated to your movies or membership.

    How can I support sims99?

Surprisingly, this question DOES get asked regularly.

We appreciate you wanting to help keep sims99 going. It does cost us money to provide this service!

We decided from the beginning we wanted to avoid just asking for money. However, we have set up several ways you can support sims99. If you buy video games (duh! of course you do!) considering buying them through sims99!

We have other sponsors, all of which you'll see listed on the left-hand menu of any page. Clicking through and making your ORDINARY purchases through our site will give a few bucks to sims99.com, and it won't cost you anything you weren't going to spend anyway.

As an extra bit of fun, we've added a shop to our site where you can buy t-shirts, mugs, and other fun gear. So you could support sims99 and promote your movies at the SAME time. Bonus.

My bandwidth is running low, but I don't want to lose my reviews!

Click "edit my movies" on the bar on the left.

Once on the "manage" page, you have three choices:

Hide / Show movie... this feature temporarily takes your film out of the main sims99 listing. You preserve your ratings and reviews, but other users don't see your movie on the category, alpha, or directors lists. Perfect for those months when your bandwidth is running out of control.

From this screen you can also:
Edit movie ... make changes to the listing

Delete movie... this is permenant, so be careful!

    Can you delete my account?

    We don't delete accounts.

A person can take off their movies themselves, but if the account is deleted completely, it also removes any ratings and reviews they may have left for others, which isn't really fair to those who have received them.

You can remove everything from your own profile.

How many reviews until I get my Star Review Star?

We get this question a LOT.

    In short.. we ain't telling.

Don't worry about it too much. Just post as you normally would, review with an eye to being helpful, and not just saying 'cool' or 'eww ick', and they'll stack up before you know it.

Why doesn't my screenshot, profile logo, or movie show up yet?

All movies that require approval and screenshots/profile logos are looked at and approved by a site admin within 24 hours. Remember that we're all in different timezones across the world, so please allow 24 hours before you write to us enquiring about your upload.

If it has been more than 24 hours, please write using our contact form.

Before you do that, please check some basic things. These are the most common reasons something cannot be approved.

    Movies:

Does your movie point to a file on your hard-drive?

If so, we cannot approve it. We are NOT a hosting company, and your movie must exist somewhere on the internet.

Does your file point to www.sims2.com or http://thesims2.ea.com/mysimpage/mysimpage.php

You must include the direct link to the movie. The second link above will simply lead people to their OWN MySim Page.

To get the direct link of a movie on your MySim Page:

In order to get the link to your movie, please go to your MySim Page, and find your movie. RIGHT CLICK the word DOWNLOAD next to your movie. Then select COPY SHORTCUT. This gives you the direct link to your film.

Now return to sims99.com. Make sure you're logged in. Then select EDIT MY MOVIES on the left-hand bar. PASTE the copied shortcut into your movie's EDIT page.

    Screenshots:

Your screenshot cannot be larger than 25KB. If it is, the upload will fail and we never got it, and therefore cannot approve it.

Occasionally, and I have no idea why, people have trouble uploading screenshots that are shots taken directly in the Sims 2 using the in-game camera. Possibly because they are too large. Please try using your video editor to take a screenshot. There is a HELP FAQ in this topic with detailed instructions on how to do that.

If none of these suggestions solved your problem, and it has been MORE THAN 24 HOURS, then please contact us for technical help.

I saw an inappropriate movie, picture, or review...what do I do?

On each "details" page, you'll see a link that looks like a big exclamation point. Click that and proceed. It will send us a link to the movie, and you can give a short description of what you feel the problem is.

Why do I have to have an account to rate and review movies?

This is simply to prevent one person from rating the same movie over and over to "stack" the results. We also don't allow people to rate/review their own movie (or have multiple accounts) for the same reason. This way, you can trust that our ratings reflect the audience's true opinions.
