How to backup game by SimMaster Ralph

back to resources

Short version:

Just copy or rename the EA Games folder under My Documents.

Long Winded version:

Before you begin, the easiest method to backing up your game, including your downloaded sims, lots, etc, is within "\My Document" folder, right click drag and drop EA Games into the same folder and select copy to create a new folder called "Copy of EA Games"

You can also drag and drop "EA Games" from "\My Document" to your Desktop.

When you wish to restore your original game, simply rename the folder "EA Games" to "EA Games OLD" and either rename the folder "Copy of EA Games" to "EA Games" or Drag and drop "EA Games" from your desktop to "My Document"

Warning: Depending on your installed Lots, Sims etc., this could vary in hard drive space from 500 megs to several gigabytes. Make sure you have enough space, around 2 gigs free, for windows to run.

Optionally you can rename the folder "EA Games" to "EA Games Original" and

Start up the Sims2 game which will create you a brand new default Neighborhood.

When you wish to restore your original game, simply rename the folder "EA Games" to "EA Games NEW" and rename the folder "EA Games Original" to "EA Games"

Whichever method you choose, this will ensure that you always have a backup copy to return to.

Whenever you feel that you need a new game, rather then re-installing Sims2, simply delete or rename the "EA Games" folder within "\My Documents" and start up Sims2 to create a brand new starting neighborhood.
